Boys are strong, they don't show emotions. Weak ones cry, tears are not for boys. Only for girls.
Boys are cold and reserved. Courage goes without saying. Little soldiers of trained military spirit who carry a shield to defend others.
Parents oftentimes teach their children all this, during their childhood, and unconsciously create their roles of fighting wolves. This is why many times boys grow up in a military spirit of emotional restraint. From early childhood, boys are instilled with a Spartan spirit that leaves no room for questions. Strength is a virtue.
As little ones get the mark of a warrior, which is why when they grow up they become men with an underdeveloped part for emotional closeness, and open communication. The very act of emotional attachment in relationships is oftentimes more difficult than any business goal. The emotional pain they once feel in a relationship during a breakup is more difficult to bear than the physical one, because they have been taught to endure the physical pain, and the emotional pain is unknown to them. When they come to know that this is where they are weakest, they do not have the capacity to accept it as personal development but as a failure, which is why they need much more time to allow the next charge of emotions.
Now we live in a time subjected to the construction of Igloos, instead of houses with a warm hearth foundation. Any kind of emotional expression indicates weakness. Then, we wonder why we have an increase in anxious and depressed people, as well as an increased number of suicides. Emotions are not there to be automated, but to be expressed, with words and actions.
Boys often wear this shield as a soul armor where they are afraid to express their feelings due to fear of weakness. They do not know how much this weakness would be tolerated by society.
Put the shield down of your boys and let them cry. Let them be weak, let them love, let them hug you tight and kiss you.
Allow them to be gentle and proud of their emotional side because tomorrow they will only be better to their companions, their brothers and sisters, their friends, their parents...everyone.
Boys are allowed to cry, just like girls.
